Wilbert Hayes, born on July 24, 1941, in Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on August 2, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia. He was a loving husband to Betty Ann Hayes and a devoted father to his children: Maurice (Patricia Ann) Hayes, Donnell Hays, Jennifer Hays Thomas, Natasha Norman, and Tanya Dunn.

Wilbert's journey through life was marked by admirable achievements and significant contributions. He received his education in the Phoenix Arizona Public School System before embarking on an illustrious career that included twenty-one years of dedicated service in the United States Army. Wilbert's commitment to his country was exemplary, reflecting his unwavering loyalty and sense of duty.

Beyond his military career, Wilbert found fulfillment in serving faithfully at Living Word Christian Center. His dedication to his faith and community resonated with all who had the privilege of knowing him. Wilbert's proudest accomplishments were not measured in accolades but in the lives he touched and the hearts he uplifted through his selfless actions.

Wilbert will be fondly remembered by his surviving family and friends as a pillar of strength and kindness. In this time of mourning, Betty Ann Hayes, Maurice Hayes, Donnell Hays, Jennifer Hays Thomas, Natasha Norman, Tanya Dunn, and all those who cherished Wilbert's presence find solace in the cherished memories they shared with him.

Services to honor and commemorate Wilbert's life will take place at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home in Augusta. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 9th from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The funeral service will follow on Saturday, August 10th at 11:00 AM at the same location. Wilbert will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Evans at 12:30 PM on the same day.
