Robert Lee Whitehead, a beloved member of the Augusta community, peacefully left this world on April 6, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on May 30, 1956, in Augusta, Georgia, Robert's life was a testament to his unwavering faith and dedication to family, community, and service.
A proud alumnus of Lucy Craft Laney High School, Robert laid a strong educational foundation that would serve him well throughout his career. He went on to work for the Richmond County Board of Education, where he made a significant impact in the lives of many students and families. His commitment to education was matched only by his profound belief in the teachings of Christ, which he professed early in life as a devoted Baptist.
Robert's infectious spirit and love for music brought joy to those around him. He had a particular fondness for the music of Earth, Wind, and Fire, appreciating how musicians like them could bring happiness during both the good times and the challenging moments of life. His personality shone brightly, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving children, Reginald M. (Diane) Whitehead, Shayla M. Whitehead, and Robert L. (Michaela) Whitehead, Jr., whose lives he enriched with his wisdom and kindness. Robert was also a cherished grandfather to Tamara, Tionne, Tavian, Patience, and Robert L. Whitehead III, and a proud great-grandfather to Cameron Brown. The love Robert shared with his family will forever be woven into the fabric of their lives.
Robert is also survived by his siblings: Mary A. (Charles) McKie, Leroy Whitehead, Nathaniel Whitehead, Ralph (Sharon) Whitehead, and Patricia A. Gutierrez. Together, they remember the cherished moments spent with their brother, honoring the bond that united them through all of life's chapters.
He was preceded in death by his father Clarence Whitehead, his mother Ida Mae Whitehead, his grandmother Pearline Hawkins, and brothers Clarence L. Whitehead, Clyde Jones, and John W. Whitehead, Sr. He also grieves the loss of his beloved nephew, Clyde Butler, and his dear nephew, Latron Smith, whose memories remain vivid in the hearts of those he left behind.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home in Augusta. Robert’s Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, starting at 2:30 PM, also at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, followed by interment at Walker Memorial Park at 3:45 PM.
