Ossie Ola McCauley, a cherished pillar of the Augusta community, departed this life on December 24, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on December 11, 1945, in Augusta, Georgia, Ossie's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, dedication, and indomitable spirit.
A proud graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School, Class of 1963, Ossie's commitment to personal growth led her to further her education in beauty. She graduated from Mar-Jan Beauty School in 1990, followed by Luvenia's School of Cosmetology in 1996. This pursuit of knowledge paved the way for her to establish Ossie's House of Styles, where her creativity and skill flourished in every hair that she styled.
Ossie's professional journey was not solely defined by her work in the beauty industry. Prior to opening her salon, she held significant roles with Travelers Insurance Company and the Medical College of Georgia's Medical Records Department. However, her greatest pride resided in the nurturing of her family. A devoted mother, she poured herself wholeheartedly into her son, Marcus Cobb, and embraced her role as Nana to her beloved grandchildren, Mason, Chandler, and Raven. Her home was a sanctuary filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.
Throughout her life, Ossie exemplified strength and gentleness, creating an environment where all were welcomed. A lifelong member of Thankful Baptist Church, she actively participated in multiple ministries including the Usher Board, Gospel and Sanctuary Choirs, and the food ministry, further underlining her deep-seated commitment to her faith and community.
Ossie was predeceased by her parents, Moses and Irene McCauley, and her beloved son, Tracy Bernard McCauley. She also mourned the loss of her siblings: Ruby Dee McCauley, Mozelle McCauley Wigfall, and William (Josie) McCauley.
She leaves behind her son, Marcus (Camilla) Cobb; grandchildren, Mason, Chandler, and Raven; her brother, Mose (Cynthia) McCauley; brothers, Bernard (Natine) McCauley; sister-in-law, Josie McCauley; and a host of nieces and nephews—Cassandra Herring, Carol (Leon) Moore, Greta (Dave) Compher, Michelle Turman, Tiffany (Lee) Bridges, Gregory (Lisa) Wigfall, Terrence "Teddy" McCauley, and Travis McCauley—who will fondly keep her memory alive.
Ossie's legacy of compassion and connection will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her funeral services will be held with love and reverence, featuring a visitation on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Celebration of Life at Thankful Baptist Church on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM, and interment thereafter at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
As we gather to honor Ossie Ola McCauley, we remember a soul who brought people together, a mother who loved without bounds, and a woman whose spirit will continue to inspire and uplift.
