Leroy Tolbert, known affectionately as "Bubba" by many, has peacefully passed away at the age of 83 in Augusta, Georgia. Leroy was born on April 2, 1941, and throughout his life, he touched the hearts of those around him with his kindness, dedication to family, and passion for his work.
Leroy dedicated much of his life to his career as a brick mason, showcasing his skill and craftsmanship in every project he undertook. His proudest accomplishment was purchasing land and meticulously building the family home brick by brick. This act of love and hard work has left behind a legacy that will be cherished by his family for generations to come.
Outside of work, Leroy found joy in simple pleasures like taking his family to the beach and spending time with loved ones. An avid golfer, he was affectionately called "Bubba" by his golfing buddies, showcasing his friendly and approachable nature wherever he went.
Mr. Tolbert was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Maggie Johnson Tolbert and his brother, William Tolbert.
Family meant everything to Leroy, and he was a devoted husband to Christine McKie Tolbert for over fifty years. He is survived by his children: Christopher Leroy (Cassandra) Tolbert, Glenn Tolbert, Lenora (Danny) Whittlesey, Lisa Renee Tolbert, and Johnerina Pollock; as well as his grandchildren Christian K. Lott, Tameka (Mychal) Mason, Brianna Whittlesey and Lauren Pollock; bonus brother, Frank Childs; brothers-in-law, Tony (Lavetta) Henry, Lee Steward, Kevin Steward; sisters-in-law, Antoinette Henry, Susie (Roland) Cooper, Cheryl Stafford and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A man of faith from an early age, Leroy was baptized and became a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. He found solace and community within the church throughout his life.
Services to honor Leroy's memory will be held at First Metropolitan Baptist Church in Augusta on Monday, May 27th. The viewing will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Leroy will then be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 12:30 PM.
Leroy Tolbert will be dearly missed but fondly remembered for the love he shared with those around him and the impact he made during his time on earth. May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy lives on through the memories and values he instilled in his family and friends.
