Harriette Veronica Griffin, born on January 8, 1948, in the serene town of Evans, Georgia, departed from this world on November 28, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia. A woman of remarkable spirit and unwavering devotion, Harriette's life was a magnificent tapestry woven with threads of love, strength, and compassion.
In her professional journey, she dedicated many years of exemplary service as a Supervisor Clerk at The Medical College of Georgia, demonstrating an unyielding commitment to her work and to those she served. Her profound impact extended far beyond her career as she cultivated a reputation for kindness and generosity, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
Education played an essential role in Harriette’s life, as she received her formative education within the Columbia County School System, culminating in her graduation from John P. Blanchard High School in 1966. This foundation instilled in her a lifelong passion for learning and growth, which she shared with her family and community.
Harriette’s heart was a sanctuary for her loved ones. Her greatest joy emanated from honoring and loving her family, whom she prioritized above all else. They will cherish her memory as one who provided unwavering love and support. She leaves behind her cherished children, Johnny Beard, Sebrena Griffin, and Octavia Webb, alongside her beloved grandchildren, Krystal Andrews, Steven Beard, Daveion Scott, Omari Webb, King Hogan, and Mekhi Hogan. Additionally, her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Messiah Andrews, Dario Andrews, and Delroyce Jackson.
A deeply spiritual woman, Harriette's steadfast faith in the Lord guided her throughout her life. She embraced Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age and remained a devoted member of Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church. It was here that she passionately shared her talents by singing in the Senior Choir, lifting spirits and praising the Lord with her melodious voice, a testament to her devotion.
Harriette is survived by her beloved siblings: Reverend Fannie Bennett, Minnie (Floyd) Ware, Elizabeth Gibson, Rose Sullivan, Sarah Willis, Franklin (Bernice) Bennett, Charles Bennett, George Bennett, Robert Bennett, Paul Barbara) Jones, and Frank Washington, in addition to her dear aunt, Williemeania Murray, sister-in-law, Juanita Bennett and brothers-in-law Melvin Washington, Ramsey Jones, and Glen McCord.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Griffin; her parents, Roosevelt Bennett and Corrine Bennett; and several siblings, including Lendia Bennett, Barbara McCord, Magnolia Washington, and brothers John Q. Bennett, Milledge Davis and John W. Bennett.
As family and friends gather in the days to come to honor her memory, Harriette will be remembered not only for her cherished presence in their lives but also for the profound legacy of love and compassion she leaves behind. The visitation will take place at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia, on Friday, December 6, 2024, with the funeral service following at Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church in Evans on Saturday, December 7, culminating in her burial at Lampkin Grove Baptist Church in Appling.
