~ LLOYD GUNTER OBITUARY ~
After an extended illness, Lloyd Gunter, 92, transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Pruitt-Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, North Augusta, SC. He was born to Benjamin and Mattie Lou O’Bryant Gunter in Clarks Hill, S.C. on March 24, 1929. He was youngest of his six siblings, Minnie, Lula Bea, Evelyn, Savannah, William, and John, all of whom proceeded him in death. After the passing of his parents, he and his older brother, John moved to Augusta where they were raised by his aunt, Mrs. France O’Bryant Mays. Lloyd attended the Silas X. Floyd School. He later went to work at the Riverside Mill for several years before being drafted in the U. S. Army. He served in the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during which time he was stationed in Germany and stateside at Fort Jackson, SC. Lloyd worked in the Public Works Department for the City of Augusta for five years. He spent the next thirty-five years working as a Pipefitter for Augusta Chemical from which he retired December 1994.
On August 15, 1952, Lloyd was united in marriage to Margaret at the Immaculate Conception. Over the next 59 years, they grew together as a loving family who ‘adopted’ a host of others as their own children. They enjoyed family devotion, travel, entertaining, recreation, and sporting events. Lloyd and his wife Margaret were devoted parish members until their health failed. Lloyd was baptized at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity on April 21, 1962 and worked tirelessly in the social and religious life of the parish. During their time at Immaculate Conception, and later at The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Lloyd and Margaret attended mass regularly and were supportive of the ‘Over 50’s Group”. Margaret departed her earthly home on August 25, 2011.
Lloyd leaves to cherish his memories and works: a nephew, Dr. Randy (Anne) Gunter, Statesboro, GA; a niece Mrs. Margaret Young, Bainbridge, GA, a devoted niece Ms. Deborrah Wilcox, Augusta; a devoted friend, Mrs. Felicia (Jerry) Faulks Scott, Augusta; a caring and devoted friend, Mrs. Nancy Eden and a host of other nieces, nephews, neighbors, parish members, relatives, and friends.
