~ EUGENIA "GENIA" EVANS OBITUARY ~ Eugenia “Genia” Evans, of Augusta, GA died in her home, surrounded by her family on October 14, 2021. She was 59 years old. Genia is survived by her children, Andrea Tyson (Tyrone) of Augusta, GA and Matthew Gillon of Augusta, GA; 4 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends; her Mother Eartha Mangham; her sister Rosemary Fleming; She is preceded in death by the parents that raised her, Clifford and Indiana Walton of Merritt Island, FL; her brothers Johnnie Fanniel, Ronald Walton, Rueben “Junior” Mangham jr; and her sister, Annie Bell Fanniel of Merritt Island, FL. Genia was born on December 9, 1961, in Rockledge, FL. Genia attended and graduated from Merritt Island High School. She tried various jobs that included working at Port Canaveral removing the heads from shrimp and working at the Chrysler car plant doing assembly line work. She finally found her passion in the kitchen. She started out cooking at various places and finally landed at the Spring Training Camp for the Houston Astros in Cocoa, FL. She worked her way up and frequently catered meals for the Baseball Players. She worked for this establishment for over 15 years until she relocated first to Fort Lauderdale, FL and eventually to Augusta, GA, where Genia and her 2 small children decided to call “home”. In addition to her illustrious career, Eugenia “Genie” Evans was a servant leader. She expressed a daily commitment to living out the Word of God. She never met a stranger and often served others before herself. She volunteered at the local church and helped to feed and clothe the homeless. Her passion was to feed and care for those she loved. She continued to believe that the way to the soul was through a person’s stomach. Her hobbies included playing cards, playing BINGO, going to the CASINO, and chatting with friends. A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. October 30, 2021, at South View Cemetery, 1102 Nellieville Road, Augusta, GA 30903, with a reception to follow at: Diamond Lakes Regional Park, 4335 Windsor Spring Road.
