~ BETTIE BARNES OBITUARY ~ Legacy Of Life Bettie Jeanette Evans Barnes was born Friday, April 7, 1944 in Augusta, GA to the late Rufus M. Evans, Sr. and the late Jennie D. Ryans Evans. She was the only girl born in a family of 2 siblings. Both of her brothers – Rufus M. Evans, Jr. & Randolph Evans preceded her in death. Bettie was educated in the Richmond County, GA Public School system and graduated from Lucy C. Laney in 1963. She received Christ at an early age and was baptized at Williams Memorial CME Church in Augusta, GA. Bettie then relocated to the Northeast to be with her family and pursue her passion – modeling. In 1964, she married her childhood sweetheart, John K. Barnes, to which 2 children this union produced. Bettie later returned to school and completed her education in Cosmetology and Nursing. She enjoyed fashion, sewing, designing clothes, modeling, traveling, and shopping. In New Jersey, Bettie joined Hopewell Baptist Church in Newark, NJ under the late Rev. Dr. Boyd B. Cantrell and subsequently Rev. Dr. Simon Simmons. At Hopewell, Bettie served on numerous committees within the church, one of which was President of the Nurses Board. Bettie later joined Metropolitan Baptist in Newark, NJ under the leadership of Rev. Dr. David Jefferson, Sr. Esquire whre she was re-baptized and rededicated her life to the Lord. Bettie relocated back to Augusta, GA in 2012 after a serious illness to be closer to her family where she remained until her passing on March 6, 2022. Bettie leaves behind 2 children to cherish her memories: Mrs. Kim B. (Kirkland) Thomas of Hephzibah, GA and Mr. Jason K. (Stacey) Barnes of Gulfport, MS; one honorary son, De’Von Hubbard of Grovetown, GA; five grandchildren, Kai A. Barnes, Grovetown, GA, J’Shawn, Somelya, and Anthony Jasper of Stone Mountain, GA, and Jerrell Watson of Philadelphia, PA; two great-grandsons, Jaylin and Amazi, one great-granddaughter, Skylar; four devoted nieces, Mrs. Sabrina (Derieck) Winfrey of Augusta, GA, Mrs. Schelene (Raymond) Kelso of Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Kelly Lance Johnston and Mrs. Randi Evans of Philadelphia, PA; her oldest aunt, Mrs. Anretia Hammond of Augusta, GA; a host of cousins that were more like siblings; devoted friends, Bettye Williams of Newark, NJ, Pastor Freddine McCormick of Houston, TX, John Dixon of Kinston, NC, Cynthia Fairley of Newark, NJ, Junelle Robinson of Bloomfield, NJ; a devoted Godsister, Emma Jean King of Augusta, GA and a devoted Sister-in-Christ Rev. Louwani Lopez of Thomasville, GA; and a host family, friends, great nieces and nephews. Condolences may be sent to: 1481 Brookstone Rd., Hephzibah, GA 30805 or C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home, 542 Laney Walker Blvd Ext., Augusta, GA 30901   Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 1 PM at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 11 AM until the time of service.
