Alonzo Abrams, a beloved member of the community and a dedicated professional, passed away on January 13, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on May 20, 1952, in Augusta, Alonzo leaves behind a legacy of hard work and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew him.
After graduating from Lucy Laney High School in 1978, Alonzo furthered his education at both UCLA and Paine College. His commitment to learning allowed him to continually grow in his profession and expand his knowledge in various areas. Alonzo was a highly skilled drywall finisher who pursued his career with passion and dedication. His expertise in his craft was unparalleled, earning him the admiration and respect of his colleagues and clients alike. Throughout his career, Alonzo left an indelible mark on the construction industry, bringing beauty and perfection to countless homes and buildings. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Alonzo also served his country honorably as a member of the Marine Corps from 1971 to 1978. His dedication to protecting and serving his nation is a testament to his character and sense of duty.
Beyond his professional and military service, Alonzo valued family above all else. He was a devoted father to Carla Abrams, Shalonda Abrams, and he cherished every precious moment spent with them. Alonzo's love extended beyond just his immediate family; he was also a loving brother to Mattie (Micheal) Cobb, Henri Ann Abrams, Dianne (Karlton) Howard, Jerri Freeman, Lenora Abrams Thomas, Brenda (Willie) Aiken, and Henry (Ogratta) Abrams. Alonzo's nurturing nature touched the lives of many others as well.
In times of joy or sorrow, Alonzo was always there for those who needed support or guidance. He possessed an uncanny ability to lift spirits with his warm smile and comforting presence. No matter the circumstance or challenge faced, Alonzo infallibly offered a helping hand and words of encouragement.
A memorial service to celebrate Alonzo's life will be held on January 18, 2024, at Green Grove Missionary Baptist in Augusta, Georgia. The service will commence at 11:00 am and conclude at noon. Located at 1692 Old Savannah Rd, the church is a fitting place to honor Alonzo's memory and gather together as a community in remembrance.
